The Iris Garden in Florence
The Iris Garden on the Michelangelo place was founded in 1954 with the aim of giving hospitality to an annual International Contest for the best varieties of Iris, the ' Premio Firenze '.
Every year is awarded the most beautiful flower while a special prize, in homage to Lily emblem of Florence, is given to the best red iris. The entrance, with his back to David, is on the left side of piazzale Michelangelo, at the beginning of the pedestrian path that runs alongside the viale dei Colli up to piazza Ferrucci. The surface of the Iris garden is about two and a half acres, the area is divided into lanes, stone pitches, an artificial lake, areas where they can relax and read a good book or just enjoy the view. In the garden you can admire in full bloom more than 1500 varieties of iris from every part of the world.
